This is how I see with Stargardts disease. This is why I struggle to recognise people even including my own children if they are far enough away. The closer I am to something, the smaller my blind spot becomes and using my peripheral becomes easier too. My blind spot flashes all the time as well, like when a tv can’t pick up a signal.
