Today is world sight day. It’s predicted that 1 person out of every 30 in the U.K., has some form of sight loss and over the world is thought to be 246 million people of which 39 million are blind. It is thought that by 2050, this will have doubled.
There are simple steps you can take to protect your eyesight as much as you can. These are –
⭐️ Eat a balanced and varied diet
⭐️ Stop smoking
⭐️ Protect your eyes form UV rays
⭐️ Find out your family history so eyes can be monitored for anything that may also affect you.
⭐️ Regular eye examinations
⭐️ Exercise if and when you can
⭐️ Check eyes regularly for any sight changes in your vision and have anything checked ASAP.
As many of you know, my eye condition, Stargardts, is genetic and incurable, but I still try and protect my remaining sight and try to prevent any other conditions from forming. I also try and encourage as many people as I can, to do the same. Sight loss can be very difficult to live with physically and emotionally and almost 80% of conditions are treatable so it’s really important to make eye care a priority if you can ♥️
Unfortunately, in many countries, eye care is just too expensive or non existent, which also adds to the growing numbers and sadly many classed as sight impaired will only need a pair of glasses to correct their sight or a cataract operation to restore vision, but many don’t have this option or can afford them 💔.
If you would like to help, many opticians will accept unwanted reading glasses, which will then be distributed to developing countries and people that need them and please Consider eye charities when donating ♥️ and lastly, don’t forget to book an eye test ASAP for yourself and any children if they are due (sight loss doesn’t just happen when you are older) or you haven’t had one for a while and help keep your eyes protected x
